Kids Eat Smart: Breakfast Program @ MDJH

We have all seen an increase in the price of food at grocery stores in recent months.  Doing more with less has become something many families have had to do to adjust to the rising cost of food in this new economic climate.

Our Kids Eat Smart Clubs are no different.  During this school year, we have seen a significant increase in the cost of food and supplies for our Kids Eat Smart Clubs.  Our KES Club volunteers are very cognizant of the need to ensure the best quality of food for our children at the best possible prices.

It is important to increase awareness and fundraising efforts to ensure we sustain our Kids Eat Smart Clubs.   This new initiative, for Wednesday, March 16, 2016, is a food drive focusing on Breakfast items to fill our Kids Eat Smart Club cupboards.

It is important, that your school participate to help collect food.

We are asking businesses, community organizations and individuals to collect food for your KES Club and drop it off to your local school on March 16th.   For people who wish to contribute but cannot make it to your school, they can DONATE online at http://www.kidseatsmart.ca/donate.  Online donations can be designated directly to your school.

Please reach out to your local KES Regional Coordinator (information listed below) with any questions or if you require assistance, please call us (877) 722.1996 or email cstoyles@kidseatsmart.ca

Thank you for everything you do, every school day.

Enrichment Mini-Courses!

Once again, students from Macdonald Drive Junior High have the chance to participate in the Enrichment Mini-Course program . These two day, out-of-school courses give students a chance to explore new and interesting topics, or to brush up on their skills in areas near and dear to them. The courses are held throughout April and May and are hosted at Memorial University of Newfoundland  (MUN), College of the North Atlantic (CNA), Marine Institute (MI) and District School (DS).

Many of these courses offer limited enrollment, and registration is first-come, first-served. Students wishing to participate must complete an application form, and select their four desired mini-courses in order of preference. Students will only be able to participate in ONE course, but those who list four choices will gain preference over those selecting only one to three courses.

The cost for participation is $40 (non-refundable if a student is chosen for a mini-course), and the fee and completed application form must be returned to the MDJH Main Office by end of school on Monday, March 14th. Cheques can be made payable to Macdonald Drive Junior High.

Application forms are available from the MDJH Main Office, or you can download a copy by clicking here. Please note that you will have to hold on to the Mini-Course Waiver, as the student must bring that with them to the mini-course on the day that they attend.
