Spirit Week Hypnotist Show

As part of Spirit Week, we are once again hosting the amazing Gary Summers and his hypnosis show. This event is eagerly anticipated every year, and this year is no different!

Grade 9 students who would like to participate have to get a signed permission form (available from your homeroom teacher, or by clicking here) and return it before March 1st. Sorry, Grade 7s and 8s, you’ll get to watch the show, but only the Grade 9s get a chance to participate!

In order to help cover the costs of this show, we are asking all students to bring in $3.00. Please give this money to your homeroom teacher by March 1st.

Note: we want all of our participants to feel safe participating in this show. Therefore there will be no photography or videoing by students of the show. Any phones or cameras observed during the show will be confiscated.

Spirit Week Is Almost Here!

Spirit Week is almost here! It runs from Monday, February 26th to Friday, March 2nd. Every day will have a different theme, and there are special events that run throughout the week. Check out the schedule for more information, and listen to the morning announcements for any additions or changes to the schedule!

50/50 Tickets Now Available!

Investing in new technology is always something we here at MDJH believe in, and to help us with this task, we have launched our latest 50/50 Drive! Students have been issued books of tickets, and there are lots of seller prizes for students who return their completed ticket stubs and collected money! Prizes include:

  • Top seller prize – $200 Best Buy gift card
  • Weekly prize draws (from local food establishments, movie passes, and much more!)
  • Top Class for sales – ice cream party for the whole class

Winning students can pick a prize from our Seller Prize Board (modelled here by Mr. Porter)…

Students who wish to pick up extra books of tickets for sale can get them from the office, and all returned tickets and money should go directly to the office so you can be entered for the Seller Prizes. Get your tickets in early to qualify!

MDJH Farewell Carnival 2018

This year, MDJH will be hosting its second Farewell Carnival on May 10, 2018, from 6:30 – 9:00PM. All Grade 9 students are invited to attend as it will be one of the last times to come together as the senior class of MDJH. The City of St. John’s Youth and Recreation Group are helping to organize the occasion. To help offset the costs, we are asking that each student bring in $20.00, along with a signed permission form.

If you need a new permission form, you can download one by clicking here. Please return the signed form and the $20.00 to your homeroom teacher or the office as soon as you can.

Head Lice Advisory

A case of head lice has been detected in the school. Anyone can get head lice, mainly through direct head-to-head contact but also from sharing hats, combs, hair brushes, headphones, helmets, hair accessories and other personal items.

Parents or guardians may feel frustrated or embarrassed, however the problem has nothing to do with standards of cleanliness. Please do your part to prevent the spread by checking your child daily for the next few weeks and weekly thereafter. Lice infestation is much easier to treat if caught early.

If your child has head lice, please start treatment immediately and notify the school. A booklet called Managing Head Lice at Home is available by clicking the link; this booklet may help you. More information can also be found electronically on the Eastern Health website.

Once a case of head lice has been found all family members should be checked as well.

If you have further questions, please contact the Public Health Nurse.
