(St. John’s, NL), November 22, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is warning parents of a large-scale party being planned in the east end of St. John’s for tomorrow night.

The RNC has learned that there are plans underway for a large-scale party Friday night, being referred to as “Project X” on social media. So far, investigators have learned that the party plans include hosting persons from the age of 14 to mid-twenties and will involve alcohol, cannabis, illicit drugs and other dangerous and criminal activities.

The RNC is urging parents to talk to their teens to be aware of their activities and know what their teen’s social plans are, for their safety, when out. We are also reminding the public that it is illegal to sell, serve, or otherwise provide alcohol or Cannabis to any person under the age of 19. Additionally, there is a zero tolerance for alcohol or Cannabis for any driver under the age of 22.

The RNC’s Criminal Investigation Division is continuing to investigate this matter and is asking anyone who has any information in relation to this event to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at: http://www.nlcrimestoppers.com.

 

We need your help! Be a volunteer!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be arriving soon, and we’re excited about sharing the joy of reading with our students. We invite you to participate in this year’s Scholastic Book Fair from December 3-6 by volunteering.

Scholastic Book Fairs gives our school the opportunity to bring families, teachers, students, and books together. It’s the ultimate book event! Additionally, a portion of the sales benefits our school library. It’s the best way to raise funds while encouraging kids to read.

Being a part of something special is easier than you think. There are lots of ways to volunteer. We need people in a variety of areas, including setting up our Book Fair and table displays (November 30) to create a terrific bookstore environment, greeting customers at the door and working at our Cashier Table and helping students and shoppers select just the right books (December 3-6).

It’s more important than ever for parents and caregivers to protect their kids’ health and development by having conversations about Cannabis early and often. Cannabis is the most commonly used illegal drug by young people aged 15-18, with Canadians of all ages among the world’s highest consumers of cannabis. This may lead to questions from your teen.

Join Eastern Health staff to learn more about cannabis, the new legislation, how to talk to your teen as well as resources and services available. These sessions will equip parents with the information needed to have open and honest conversations with their teenagers.

Due to the poor weather in the forecast for tonight, all practices at MDJH are cancelled.

On Friday, November 16th we will be raising awareness of Pancreatic Cancer, one of the world’s deadliest cancers. We ask that students wear purple on this day to show their support.

Reminder that tomorrow is Canada’s National Jersey Day! Please wear a jersey or t-shirt to support your sports team!

If you could help a group of impoverished kids get an education, would you? Our global campaign as a WE School this year is WE Are Silent, an initiative about raising awareness for children whose voices are unheard.

On Tuesday, November 20th, MDJH will go silent for 20 minutes, We are asking for a donation of $2.00 or more from each student to support education in Sierra Leone, a country in West Africa with one of the worst education systems in the world. As a fundraising goal, we’s like to raise $1000.00 to outfit a whole classroom. As a bonus, if we raise $1000.00, student council President Daniel B. and the entire student council will be silent for an entire day of November 21st. Help us out and donate!

Student council will have a table set up this week at lunch times for all students to sign pledges to be silent. Stop by and sign a pledge!
