We hope you are all staying safe and getting used to this new virtual teaching environment. Although we are not in the building, we are still available to you virtually.

Your guidance counselors will be hosting a Virtual Lunch check-in on Wednesdays from 11:20-12:20 for MDJH students who would like to come and chat.

This lunch check-in will be starting tomorrow Wednesday, February 17th. The Google Meet link will be posted in our Google Classroom.

Feel free to join our MDJH GUIDANCE CORNER (Google Classroom) where we will post various resources and tools, as well as the link to our Google Meet.

Class code is: peb3w63

If you have trouble getting into the classroom, just email us and we will invite you.

Take care everyone!

Attendance Update

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We understand that the shift to online learning will require some adjustment. We will still be following the regular attendance policy . That is, if your child is unable to attend classes for a legitimate reason, please let their homeroom teacher know. You should also identify an excused absence by emailing the school at: macdonalddrivejrh@nlesd.ca

Teachers will be monitoring attendance as per normal. If you require any support, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

Thank you for your continued support.

Take care and stay safe.

MDJH Guidance Corner

Ms. Watton and Ms. Ward would like all students to know that we have reactivated our MDJH Guidance Corner Google Classroom.  In the classroom, we have posted tips and strategies for dealing with the COVID 19 shutdown.

If your child would like to join, they can use the code:peb3w63.

Stay Safe and don’t hesitate to reach out!  To set up a virtual counseling appointment, you can email us at deanaward@nlesd.ca or christinawatton@nlesd.ca.

School Clothing / Staff Appreciation

If anyone wishes they had placed a clothing order, we are offering one last opportunity. Our first order has arrived and been distributed. The company has offered to do a second printing for us. If anyone wishes to place an order, you can do so by Friday, Feb. 12th at noon.

Click here to download an order form.

Payments by cash or a cheque made payable to MDJH can be accepted. Due to Public health safety measures, please put any payments in a baggie or envelope and hand in to the office. All sections of the order form must be completed including name, size, color and homeroom number. If embroidery is selected it is for one name only and this must be clearly printed on the form.

Unfortunately, no sample sizes are available due to public health safety measures.

Printed copies of order forms are available at the office.

2. Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is February 8th-12th. We would like to ask our school community to show appreciation for the staff of MDJH by providing treats at recess and lunch. Following Public Health Guidelines, any treats sent in must be individually wrapped. Trays of food are not permitted as there is to be no sharing of food. Suggestions include granola bars, individual packages of cookies or crackers, chips, bars, candies, chocolates, etc. As in past years, we would like to have grade levels provide on different days:

  • Monday, Feb. 8 – Grade 7
  • Tuesday, Feb. 9 – Grade 8
  • Wednesday, Feb.10 – Grade 9.

If you are able to send along a treat, please email colettequann@nlesd.ca.

Please remember as well that anything sent in must be school safe – peanut-free. Thank you.

School Development Survey

January 21, 2021

Subject: Request for Feedback – Family Survey

Dear Parent/Guardian,

School Development Surveys are conducted annually to gather feedback from students, staff, and parents/guardians to inform the school development process. The survey results will be provided to your child’s school and used with other data to identify the school’s strengths and challenges. Your child’s school will then create and implement a plan to build on successes and address areas of challenge.

The survey is anonymous, which means that we cannot connect your survey responses to you. We encourage everyone to participate so that we have the most accurate representation of family perceptions at your school.

The Family Survey will be available on February 8, 2021. Please complete the survey by March 19, 2021 by clicking on the following link: https://www.research.net/r/SDFamily2021EN. If you do not have internet access contact your school.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the school development surveys, please contact:

Allan Johnson at 709-729-7831 or allanjohnson@gov.nl.ca or

Patricia Emberley at 709-729-6850 or patriciaemberley@gov.nl.ca

Thank you for your participation and for being a valued member of your school community.

Sincerely,
