We’ll see our new and returning students on September 8th!

Students in the LEARN program at MDJH enjoyed an end of year field trip to Murray’s Farms in Portugal Cove/St. Phillips. This was the final portion of our community garden revitalization which was funded by the Conservation Corps!

Just a couple of items as we wind down the school year:

1. Can you please remind students that ALL textbooks, library books, and locks must be returned to school?
2. Thursday is our last day of school and students will be receiving their report cards. We will be celebrating our last day with a virtual in-class year end assembly.
3. We are so proud to say that to date, we have sold 25 boulders for our second outdoor classroom! If a family or families would like to purchase a boulder for $150, it can be dedicated to a person or family and will be memorialized by a small plaque embedded on the boulder. Please contact Ms. Pike if you are interested.

A surprise retirement party from Homeroom 7-5 for Madame Brunet.

• Monday, June 21, is a special day. Not only is it Pride Month, it is also National Indigenous People’s Day. We would like to celebrate pride month and the retirement of Madame Brunet by asking students and teachers to wear rainbow colours to support our 2SLGBTQ-mmunity OR we would like to show respect for National Indigenous People’s day by wearing orange.
• We will be having regular classes next week and Chartwell cafeteria services will be offered until Wednesday, June 23.
• Our last day with our students is Thursday, June 24. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 on that day.

On Monday, June 21 we will be celebrating our Pride Day! Please wear rainbow colours or one of the colours of the rainbow to show your support for our 2SLGBTQ-mmunity. As well, we want to honor the retirement of Madame Brunet and join her in showing our true colours!

The dedication for the Outdoor Classroom will be Monday, June 21 at 3:30. As well, the dedication for Ethan Paul’s bench will be Thursday, June 17 at 6:00.

Our new planters for the outdoor classroom are looking good, and there have already been several people and families who have stepped forward to dedicate a boulder in our second outdoor classroom, which is under construction. If you would like more information on dedicating a boulder, please email Ms. Pike.

STEMforGIRLS Club is a career exploration community that aims to empower female and gender-diverse youth across Newfoundland and Labrador with the information and self-confidence needed to pursue STEM careers. At our “Summer Summit” we will be exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math week by week for the month of July with chances to WIN a Microsoft Surface Go 2!

Registration for this event includes year-round access to STEMforGIRLS Club opportunities to meet women working in STEM, learn new skills from professionals, connect with STEM groups and postsecondary schools, access career development tools, and much more.
