Social Media Challenges

We are writing to make you aware of some disturbing social media challenges that have gained some recent attention. You may have heard of a trend which encourages young people to engage in a number of inappropriate and potentially criminal activities, such as destroying community/public property, inappropriately touching others, and other activities which could seriously impact the safety of individuals in our school community. One such challenge encourages students to “smack a staff member on the backside”.

Students should be aware that having any such physical contact will not be tolerated. Such behaviour constitutes assault and would be reported to law enforcement for investigation. Further to that, such behaviour, if validated, would result in serious discipline from the school.

Please take the time to discuss appropriate behaviour with your child – whether that behaviour is online or in person – so they are aware of the risks and potential consequences.

Thank you for your assistance and understanding.

Video Game Club Returns for 2021!

The MDJH video Game Club will be starting up again, on a new day of the week. This year, Club will take place on Thursdays after school, in the Library from 2:15 to 4:15pm. Students who need a ride home are asked to be picked up from the school no later than 4:30pm.

There will be an information session on Wednesday (tomorrow) at 11:45am in Room 216. Information is also available on our Video Game Club Page.

Jamarama 2021- Friday, Oct 22, 2021

Jamarama is back on Friday, October 22nd!

It’s the 10th year!! So let’s have the biggest, coolest PJ party ever across Newfoundland and Labrador! Staff and students are encouraged to wear pajamas to school in support of the Janeway.

Taking part in Jamarama is easy! Simply bring in a monetary donation by October 22nd, and wear your pajamas to school! Wearing pajamas is a sign of solidarity and support for the brave kids at the Janeway Hospital who don’t get to change out of their PJs. It lets them know that we are thinking of them and are fighting for them.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

MDJH is participating in the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Students are encouraged to bring in a non-perishable food item or items. We will be accepting items from Monday – Friday (October 4th-8th). Food items should be labeled with your child’s homeroom number and can be dropped off to Room 108. The 3 homerooms bringing in the most items will be awarded an ice cream for each student in the homeroom. Please help us make a great donation to a worthy cause. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.

Volunteer – Photographer Needed!

MDJH is looking for a community volunteer with an interest in photography to lead our photography club. Our school has had a photography club for many years. However, our volunteer who had led this group is no longer able to continue due to work commitments. If you have an interest in and would like to lead our photography club this year, please contact Ms. Colette Quann at colettequann@nlesd.ca with an expression of interest for details.
