On January 25th, MDJH participated in the Bell Let’s Talk Day. All students received a Let’s Talk toque and a snack bag, then the school assembled in the gym to hear from musician Rachel Cousins. She spoke about her own experiences with being bullied in school and the challenges she faced as a result, as well as her chosen path forward.




On Friday, January 27th, MDJH had a visit from alumni Bethany Downer. She spoke to the students as part of MDJH’s 50th anniversary celebrations, and talked about her role as a space communicator as well as the path she is following on her journey as a Canadian astronaut candidate.




The French Department is planning a trip to Quebec City and Montreal for May 2024. The trip is open to grade 8 and 9 immersion students (our current grade 7 and 8 early and late immersion classes who will be in grade 8 and 9 next year).
There has been an overwhelming expression of interest and enrollment is now open. There is currently a cap of 32 spots available. Any student registering will be put on a wait list. This doesn’t mean we are at capacity. It means that your child is waitlisted pending approval from the administration. They may be under the cap of 32. When approved, you will receive notification.

Grade 7 boys “B” basketball practices are cancelled for Monday, January 30th and Wednesday, February 1st.
Female Hockey team try-out sessions continue this Tuesday, January 31st from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at Twin Rinks.
Friendly reminder to bring the $40 tryout fee if you have not already done so.
There is a badminton tournament in Spaniard’s Bay on Saturday, January 28th. There is still space available for participants, specifically U15 boys (grade 7/8).

There will be a parent and student information session on Thursday Jan.26th at 7 pm in the library. Anyone interested and unable to attend should email colettequann@nlesd.ca for information.
Girls Junior High Hockey Tryouts (open to grades 7, 8 and 9), start on Tuesday, January 24th at 3 PM at Twin Rinks. Cost per player is $40 for 4 sessions.
Try out fee will be collected at the stadium by the coach prior to the players stepping on the Ice. If possible please pay with a cheque made out to MDJH.
(1) Due to the forecast and uncertainty when the parking lot and emergency exists will be cleared, all practices on Saturday and Sunday at MDJH are cancelled.
(2) All games and tournaments for all MDJH sports teams are cancelled for this weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
