Important Allergy Update – Fall 2023

This is a reminder to our school community that we have various serious and life threatening allergies here at MDJH; and therefore, these items must not be brought into or consumed in the school:

  • all nuts
  • shellfish and fish
  • eggs
  • buttered/flavoured or microwave popcorn
  • cheesies
  • kiwi
  • latex balloons
  • scented products

In addition, students and staff are reminded to always wash their hands after eating and to clean up eating areas after eating, as we also have several severe allergies to foods that are difficult to ban due to their common nature.

Families are reminded to inform their child’s Homeroom teacher of any allergies or medical needs during the first days of school, or prior to, if possible. As well, allergy and medical forms need to be updated and submitted to the school at the beginning of every school year. You can find the necessary forms here: https://mdjh.info/medical-forms/.

Female Ice Hockey Tryouts (Update)

First Tryout will be on Monday December 4th at 4:00pm at the New Capital Subaru Ice surface.

The cost of the tryouts will be $50 which will cover 6 tryouts.

The $50 must be paid to the coaches prior to the 1st tryout. Payments can be made by cash or cheque made out to MDJH.

No player will be allowed on the ice until payment is made.

Adopt A Senior Christmas Project (2023)

For more than ten years MDJH has partnered with St. Patrick’s Mercy Home to provide gifts for their seniors who may not have anyone to give them a gift. They are too often forgotten at this time of year. Ours are the only gift they may receive.

We receive a list of wish items for seniors. Some lists are bigger than others and some are quite small.

Students are asked to bring in a monetary donation toward the purchase of items requested OR students are also able to bring in the following items:

  • Dry hair shampoo (Ex. – Batiste)
  • Shampoo / Conditioner (low scent)
  • Body lotion (low scent)
  • Body wash (low scent) – No bar soaps please
  • Baby powder
  • Toothpaste
  • Nail polish – neutral colours, reds, pinks
  • Treats
    • chewing gum
    • soft cheesies
    • chocolate bars (no nuts or chewy – just plain chocolate)
    • soft candy
    • soft drinks – mini or regular cans (Ginger Ale or diet Pepsi))
  • Crossword or word search books (large print)
  • Canvas for painting (8.5 x 11 is best)
  • Paint brushes – variety of sizes
  • Gift Cards – Tim Hortons/Dollarama (Recreation Therapy takes residents on outings and they often stop at Tim Hortons to get residents coffee, etc.)

Every homeroom will also sign a Christmas card for the seniors.

This is a very heartwarming project. Thank you for your continued support!

All donations must be handed in to room 222 (Ms. Sauvé) by Monday, December 11th.
