Baseball Updates – May 27th

Congratulations to the boys baseball team who have advanced to the Tier 2 Championship game of the St John’s Minor Baseball Junior High Tournament! The boys play tonight at 8pm at Airport Heights Field. Good luck team!

The next tryout for the girls baseball team is tomorrow, Tuesday, May 28th, at the Techniplex in Pleasantville from 3pm-4pm. Any girl interested in playing for the team must have attended at least one of the first two tryouts. Girls/families are reminded that there is a one time $5 fee, payable at the Techniplex, to cover the rental cost of the facility.

Baseball Updates – May 24th

Good luck to the Boys Baseball Team today as they take on Mount Pearl Intermediate in the second game of the St. John’s Minor Baseball Junior High School tournament at 5:00p.m. at Airport heights Field. Good luck this weekend guys!

The Boys Baseball Game scheduled for 5:00pm today has been cancelled due to the weather.

The next tryout for the Girls Baseball Team is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28th, from 3:00pm to 4:00p.m at the Techniplex in Pleasantville.

Student Leadership Award – Application

Attention Grade 9 Students!

Do you feel that you are the type of person who has made a positive impact during your time at MDJH? You may qualify as the 2023-24 recipient of the MDJH Student Leadership Award!

To qualify for this award, a student has to meet the following criteria:

  • Model excellent behaviour in the classroom
  • Be a positive role model in any school-based activity
  • Take a leadership role in curricular and co-curricular activities
  • Maintain a good attendance/punctuality record
  • Maintain a good academic standing
  • Work to their academic potential

To apply for this award, students must:

Selected students will be presented with a certificate and have their names permanently inscribed on the school Student Leadership tableau in front of the main office.

The deadline for application is Friday, June 7th.

Celebrating Student Success – Millie J.!

Congratulations to Grade 9 student Millie J. on being selected as one of 16 Historic Sites Association NL Ambassadors! Millie and 15 other students from throughout the province will travel to France and Belgium for a First World War battlefield tour!

Mark Jackman Memorial Chess Tournament 2024

The 2nd Annual Mark Jackman Memorial Chess Tournament will be held at Gonzaga High School on Saturday, May 25th. This tournament is hosted by the Jackman family and the Gonzaga organizing committee and is open to players of all ages and abilities.

Event timeline:

  • Rounds will begin at 10am
  • Each player will have a minimum of 5 games, with some players having a BYE in their group if there is an odd number of participants
  • SwissSys will be used for pairings and a Swiss System or Round Robin format will be utilized in each division of the tournament
  • There will be 5 divisions, based on age group:
    • Primary: Grades K – 3
    • Elementary: Grades 4 – 6
    • Junior High: Grades 7 – 9
    • High School: Grades 10 -12
    • Open: Age 18+
  • Tournament will be live streamed
