Truth and Reconciliation Day – September 30th

Truth and Reconciliation Day is being honored on Tuesday, September 30th. There will be no classes on that day. Please note that Wednesday will be Day 7 when students return.

Students and staff are asked to wear orange shirts on Monday, September 29th in recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Skills Canada – Get Involved!

We’re excited to begin preparing for this year’s Skills Canada competitions and would love for you to take part!

To get started, students should join our Google Classroom using the class code: x5bwi2t.

Inside you’ll find:

  • A Google Form to express your interest and select your preferred competition category.
  • Descriptions of each category under Classwork to help guide your choice.

A few important notes:

  • Skills Canada is an independent opportunity. We are looking for motivated students who are ready to take responsibility and commit to their preparation.
  • If multiple students or teams select the same category, priority will go to Grade 9 students, followed by first-come, first-serve.
  • If you are not chosen for your first-choice category, don’t worry! There are many other categories, and we strongly encourage you to get involved—it’s a fun, challenging, and rewarding experience.
  • All updates and competition details will be communicated through Google Classroom.

Check out the categories, complete the form, and take the leap—Skills Canada is your chance to learn, grow, and shine!

For more information, please get in touch with Ms. Jacklyn Ghaney.

Terry Fox Walk – Thank You!

We want to send out a big “Thank You!” to everyone who donated to our 2025 Terry Fox Walk. Thanks to your generosity, we raised $3225.00, smashing our target goal! It’s not too late to donate – we’ll still accept donations today, and the homeroom with the highest total will win a pizza party! Visit https://schools.terryfox.ca/102114 if you would like to make our total soar even more.

Yesterday was a great day for our walk. Each grade walked around Kenny’s Pond and back in the sun. A huge thanks go out to Mr. Mark Tobin for organizing the walk!

Terry Fox Walk – September 25th

This year, our school is proudly taking part again in the annual Terry Fox School Walk to continue Terry’s dream of a world without cancer. Our walk will take place on Thursday, September 25th.

This year MDJH has a fundraising goal of $1,500.00. Last Year we raised $1,330.00 so we really want to try and break that mark this year. Whichever homeroom raises the most money will also be awarded a class pizza party.

How to DONATE:

  • Click on link https://schools.terryfox.ca/102114
  • Then click on donate – donate to this school – then there is an option – Please indicate the classroom you are supporting and write the child’s homeroom!

Any questions, please forward to Mark Tobin at marktobin@nlschools.ca.

Message from Chartwells

A new pay-for-what-you-can lunch service will start MDJH in mid-October.

It had originally planned to start in on October 1 but it has taken a little longer to get some kitchen equipment in place than expected.

There will be a further update when the new start date is confirmed.

In the meantime, Chartwells Eats will continue to provide retail school lunch service. You can place your order on www.chartwellsk12.ca
