There will be a Grade 7 Girls B volleyball team open tryout today from 7:00-8:30 pm at Macdonald Drive Junior High.

There will be a Grade 7 Girls B volleyball tryout on Wednesday, October 9th, from 4:30- 6:00pm.

Please note that this tryout will take place at Macdonald Drive Elementary school (MDE).

There will be Grade 7 boys open volleyball tryouts on Tuesday, October 8th from 2:30 – 4pm.

Today MDJH participated in the Annual Terry Fox Walk. Thanks to generous donations from students and families, we raised over $1400.00 to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation, and we’ll add in any donations that come in after the weekend.

It was a great fall day for a walk around Kenny’s Pond. Than you to Mr. Tobin for organizing it for us.

Any student who is participating in an open tryout for our sports teams, please complete the attached parental consent form prior to coming for the try out.

This form must be received by your coach before your child is permitted to participate.

This is a reminder to our school community that we have various serious and life threatening allergies here at MDJH; and therefore, these items cannot be brought into or consumed in the school:

• ALL nuts
• shellfish and fish
• eggs
• buttered/flavoured or microwave popcorn
• cheesies
• snacks with powdered cheese (popcorn, cheese crackers)
• sesame seeds
• kiwi
• latex balloons
• scented products/sprays

In addition, students and staff are reminded to always wash their hands after eating and to clean up eating areas after eating.

Families are responsible for ensuring that the school has a current Epi-pen on hand; in the case of anaphylactic allergies. As well, families are responsible for informing the school of any allergies their child/youth has.

We are now collecting items for the VOCM Cares/Metrobus Thanksgiving Food Drive. Please bring in any non-perishable food items you may have. The deadline is Oct. 11th. Mr. House will collect these from classrooms throughout the week.

This year, our school is proudly taking part in the annual Terry Fox School Run to continue Terry’s dream of a world without cancer. Our walk will take place next Friday, October 4th. Donations can be made on-line (check your child’s Google Classroom for the link), or you can send in money to your homeroom teacher.

Whichever homeroom raises the most money will be awarded a class Pizza Party.

Skills Canada is a competition that provides students in grades 7 to 9 the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in various categories, such as baking, coding, graphic design, photography, and more. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, and students interested in participating can express their interest by completing this Google Form.

Grade 9 students will be given priority as it is their last year to compete, and the remaining spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

On Tuesday, October 8th, MDJH will be holding its annual Kids Eat Smart Walk to Breakfast. Donations to support our school’s Breakfast Club are greatly appreciated – you can donate online today by going to www.kidseatsmart.ca⁠. Every $1 donated is a breakfast for a child.
