MDJH Wears Orange – June 3
MDJH recognizes the impact the Residential School system has had on Indigenous people throughout Canada. We wish to respect and honour the 215 children, families and communities that are deeply affected by this most recent tragedy in BC. On Thursday, June 3, we encourage all students, staff and our school community at MDJH to wear orange as a symbol of respect and to honour the 215 Indigenous children found at the former residential school in Kamloops and all residential school survivors.
Orange symbolizes recognition of the harm the residential school system did to children’s sense of self-esteem and well-being, and as an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters.
On that day, we will also have a moment of silence at 12:15 pm, to honour the 215 children and to make a commitment to further our learning about Residential Schools.
Thank you.
