Growing season has begun at MDJH! Seeds are sprouting, plants are growing and we are waiting for the sun to appear to begin work on our Community garden. And WORK it needs! We are hoping to improve things in the garden this year and so we are looking for donations to help support the addition of some raised beds – we are also looking for soil, seedlings, some more garden tools etc.

This past Thursday and Friday, the ROV team had a great outing at their competition over at the Marine Institute. MDJH Robotics, or ORCA as they are known (which stands for Ocean Research and Coastal Applications) placed third overall in the points and first in their marketing presentation! An honourable mention of being the most ferocious in the pool was also handed out to the team – a credit to their design and likely Ethan C.’s persistent piloting skills. Mr. Sharpe and Mr. Thorne are very proud of this group’s accomplishments and are looking forward to next season.

Tryouts for the boys and girls baseball teams are tentatively scheduled for this Thursday, May 11th. Confirmation of locations and times will be announced tomorrow.
Today’s boys baseball try-out has been changed to 4:00 – 5:15p.m. today, due to a scheduling conflict in the gym.
Another try-out will be held later this week for players unable to attend today’s session.
The first try-out for the boys baseball team will be Monday, May 8, from 2:30 – 4:00pm.
An announcement on girls tryout times will be made on Tuesday, May 5th.
Over the Easter break, Noah and his team won Gold in the U15C Caps Provincial Hockey Tournament.

Over the Easter break, these boys represented the St. John’s U14 travel soccer team in an exhibition tournament in the UK. They played against teams from across the UK and Malta. The boys played 5 games in total, winning 2, tied 2, and lost 1. Congrats to these boys and the rest of their teammates! They did a great job representing the St. John’s soccer club!

Congratulations to the Grade 7 Girls Volleyball team, who won Bronze this past weekend in the tournament here at MDJH!
Congratulations also go out to the Grade 7 Boys Volleyball team. In the recent 14U Provincial tournament, they were the only Grade 7 team to finish in Tier 1!
