The next Boys Baseball Team Game will be tomorrow (Friday, May 24th) vs Mount Pearl Intermediate at Airport Heights Field at 5:00p.m. Good Luck to the team!

The next tryout for the Girls Baseball Team is tentatively booked for Tuesday, May 28th, from 3:00pm to 4:00p.m.

• The first game for the boys baseball team will be today, Wednesday, May 22nd, at 5:00p.m. at Airport Heights Field. Players are asked to be there 30 minutes prior to the game.
• The next try-out for the girls baseball team will be next week. The date and time for the try-out has not yet been finalized.

Last Friday, students and teachers at MDJH participated in a Community Clean Up as part of our EcoSchoolsCAN initiative. A lot of garbage was collected for Clean St. John’s. A special thank you to City of St. John’s councilor Jill Bruce!

• Letters for the boys baseball team were available at the office last Friday.
• There will be a practice for the boys baseball team tonight, Tuesday, May 21st, from 7pm – 8:30pm in the school gym.
• The next try-out date and time for the girls team will be announced tomorrow.

The 2nd Annual Mark Jackman Memorial Chess Tournament will be held at Gonzaga High School on Saturday, May 25th. This tournament is hosted by the Jackman family and the Gonzaga organizing committee and is open to players of all ages and abilities.

Event timeline:

• Rounds will begin at 10am
• Each player will have a minimum of 5 games, with some players having a BYE in their group if there is an odd number of participants
• SwissSys will be used for pairings and a Swiss System or Round Robin format will be utilized in each division of the tournament
• There will be 5 divisions, based on age group:
  • Primary: Grades K – 3
  • Elementary: Grades 4 – 6
  • Junior High: Grades 7 – 9
  • High School: Grades 10 -12
  • Open: Age 18+
• Tournament will be live streamed

Congratulations to the Boys Grade 8 basketball team, who played in the Grade 9 league finals this weekend at Paradise Intermediate. The boys beat the host team in the finals of the grade level ahead of them.

Way to go, Grizzlies!

Girls Baseball

• The first tryout for the girls baseball team will be this Thursday, May 16th, from 3pm – 4pm at the Techniplex in Pleasantville. No outside footwear please.
• There will be a one time $5 fee charged per student, which should be paid at the facility. Students are asked not to pay at the office.
• The sign – up sheet for the girls team has been reposted outside of the gym entrance for interested girls who have not yet signed up to try out. All interested players must sign the sheet to be eligible for try-outs. The sheet will remain posted until the end of lunch hour on the day of try-outs.

Boys Baseball

• The next update for the Boys baseball team will be announced both at school and posted on this website on Tuesday, May 14.
• Selection letters for the boys baseball team will be available at the office on Wednesday, May 15th, at the office during recess and lunch hour.
