Pi Day at MDJH

To close out our Pi Day, we had a “Pie A Teacher” contest. The student council sold tickets for a change to smoosh a pie in the face of one of our brave teacher volunteers, and the response was enthusiastic. Thank you to the organizers, ticket buyers, and teachers who took part.

Before the carnage

Mr. Tarrant proved to be a great sport about being a frequent target…

Request for Feedback – Family Survey

Dear Parent/Guardian,

School Development Surveys are conducted annually to gather feedback from students, staff, and parents/guardians to inform the school development process. The survey results will be provided to your child’s school and used with other data to identify the school’s strengths and challenges. Your child’s school will then create and implement a plan to build on successes and address areas of challenge.

The survey is anonymous, which means that we cannot connect your survey responses to you. We encourage everyone to participate so that we have the most accurate representation of family perceptions at your school.

Please complete the survey by clicking on the following link: https://www.research.net/r/SDFamily2324EN. If you do not have internet access contact your school.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the school development surveys, please contact:

Thank you for your participation and for being a valued member of your school community.

Sincerely,
Dr. Carolyn Stacey for Joanne Hogan
Director, Evaluation and Research Division

Congratulations to NL Winter Games Competitors

Congratulations to the MDJH Grizzlies that competed in the recent NL Winter Games in Gander. Students participated in many events, and helped win medals in Hockey, Curling, Cross Country Skiing, and many more!

Many Grizzlies participated with St. John’s North teams. For a look at the teams and medal counts, please click here.

St. John’s North accepts the Premier’s Cup

MDJH student Emma S. had the privilege of being selected with Leah Q. (former MDJH student and hockey team gold medal winner) to accept the NL Winter Games Premier’s Cup on behalf of all the St. John’s North athlete group for the region that accumulated the most points.

Way to go, Grizzlies!

Ultimate Frisbee at MDJH

MDJH’s Ultimate Frisbee Team continues to practice on Sundays from 7:30-9 pm. We have a great group of committed and enthusiastic players who have been steadily improving all year!

As students prepare for their provincial tournament in May, we are looking for more female (or non-binary) players to join the team. Ultimate Frisbee is co-ed sport and teams must have more than one gender represented to play in competition in Junior High.

This is a great opportunity for students to get involved with a new sport and to learn new skills. Many of our students have only started playing this year and have already learned a lot thanks to our excellent coaches. Students who have played other sports can easily adapt those skills to Ultimate Frisbee and anyone can quickly pick up the basics of the sport. If students have any interest in trying out the sport, now is a great time! Come out to a practice and see what you think!

Anyone who is interested can check in with Mr. Downey in Room 210, email chrisdowney@nlesd.ca, or just come on out on Sunday night!
