Project Thanksgiving Toasty Toes

MDJH is supporting Project Thanksgiving Toasty Toes to collect donations of warm socks (sized for ages 12 and up) and personal care items to support Thrive Community Centre. Thrive is a non-profit organization in St. John’s providing support and services to empower vulnerable individuals (ages 12 and up) who struggle with issues including education, sexual exploitation, trauma, mental health and addictions.

A collection box has been placed in the main office where students and parents can drop off donations.

Last day for donations is Halloween, Thursday, October 31st.

MDJH Walk to Breakfast

Well, the weather wasn’t up to an outdoor walk, but students got a change to move about as homerooms walked laps in the gym. This was followed by a breakfast of muffins and fresh fruit, all served by our MDJH Breakfast Club volunteers. Students were asked to bring in a twonie to help raise funds to keep our Breakfast Club going, and they rose to the challenge. Way to go, Grizzlies!

Walk to Breakfast – Friday, October 18

We are having our Kids Eat Smart Walk to Breakfast tomorrow, Friday, rain or shine. If it is raining, students will walk around the gym instead of Kenny’s Pond. We will all enjoy a muffin and a fresh fruit breakfast. A huge thank you to Chartwells for providing muffins to our staff and students for this important initiative.

Students are encouraged to bring along a toonie to support our breakfast program.

Cricket at MDJH

Cricket is a very widely played sport in many countries and is gaining popularity in Canada. New members are invited to participate in learning this sport.

We will practice batting, bowling and fielding activities during our sessions. We will also have brief sessions to introduce the fundamental rules of the game. Students who would like to play only need a pair of gym shoes.  No experience with the sport is necessary as we will begin with basics. While the purpose is to have fun while developing Cricket skills, we also intend to develop a team that would play matches with teams from other schools in future.

In order to gauge interest and to get a sense of numbers beforehand, we would appreciate if you could email us if your child is interested in playing.  Please respond to nadeemsaqlain@yahoo.com by Monday, October 21.  We would like to begin the sessions on Monday, October 21.
