Re: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Date: March 10, 2020
______________________________________________________________________
As you are aware, countries worldwide are dealing with the outbreak of COVID-19, “coronavirus”. The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District will continue to take guidance from the Department of Health and Community Services and relevant Public Health Agencies in supporting our school communities as this situation evolves.

Below you will find relevant links to information and resources.

Link to Government of Canada COVID-19 information:
https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection.html

We encourage you to review these documents and discuss with your school-aged children the practice of good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, both of which are key to reducing transmission of COVID-19, as well as other viruses.

  • Good hand hygiene involves cleaning hands often by washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that
contains at least 60-95% alcohol if soap and water is not readily available.
  • Respiratory etiquette means covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Cough or sneeze into a tissue or into your upper sleeve, not your hands. Put the used tissue in a waste basket.
  • See Link: Coronavirus Information for Schools and Daycares

The District will continue to liaise with officials from the Department of Health and Community Services and Public Health Agencies and will update our school
communities as appropriate.

If you have any questions, please call the provincial HealthLine at 811 or TTY 1-888-709-3555.
