Virtual Queer Prom – June 18th

Happy Pride!

Egale is hosting a virtual Queer Prom celebration for students and youth as part of our #PrideInside activities this summer!

Join us on June 18th at 7 PM EST on social media @EgaleCanada as we bring together passionate speakers, queer singers and artists, and of course what is a Queer Prom without drag queens 🌈 ?

We will also be spotlighting a few students/schools. If you’d like to nominate your students as our inclusive leaders or Prom Royalty or share a favourite memory from your GSA, please get in touch with us by Monday, June 15th or tag us on social #PrideInsideProm @EgaleCanada.

Help us spread the word about the Queer Prom – young LGBTQI2S people and allies alike are welcome to join!

Kinderstart/Kindergarten Registration to Reopen Today, June 10th

Today (Wednesday, June 10), the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District is reopening the online registration process for Kinderstart 2020-21/Kindergarten 2021-22. Registration will remain open throughout the summer, until August 31, 2020.

This action is being taken as fewer families than expected took advantage of the annual registration process held last month, likely because of circumstances surrounding the ongoing public health emergency.

Families whose child will turn 5 years old on or before December 31, 2021 are encouraged to avail of this opportunity to register, if they have not already done so.

Meanwhile, during a typical year, families would confirm their addresses in-person at their zoned school to complete the registration process. However, given the current public health emergency, all families will be contacted by their registered school in the fall (September/October) to make arrangements to verify registration information (e.g., address, MCP number). Confirmation of placement in Early French Immersion will also occur at that time.

Complete registration information is available on the District’s website or directly at: https://www.nlesd.ca/families/kindergartenregistration.jsp

The District continues to encourage safety throughout the summer and urges communities to follow the latest advice from public health authorities.

Gonzaga Q & A For Grade 9 Students

The student council members of Gonzaga are trying to come up with ways to help incoming students connect with Gonzaga in these uncertain times. On Wednesday, June 10th, members of student council are hosting a Question and Answer period for incoming students in hopes to alleviate some anxiety with the uncertain times ahead and to provide connections for students prior to the end of this school year. Below you will find a poster to promote this event.

Please complete the registration form below if you are interested in attending. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Amanda Craig (amandacraig@nlesd.ca) or Lesley Gallivan (lesleygallivan@nlesd.ca), the Student Council moderators who will also be in attendance at the virtual event. We hope to see you all on Wednesday.

Paint a Rock for our Kindness Garden

In celebration of the life of Ethan Paul, we would like to invite our students, or anyone from the broader school community, to paint a rock for a Kindness Garden that will be created in our future outdoor classroom. Rocks can be painted with a memory, a wish, a thought, or a picture as a tribute to Ethan. We are asking students to paint the rock, and lay it outside the student entrance at MDJH. These rocks will be collected at the end of the school year and kept safe until they can be relocated to the outdoor classroom.

Google Meet Celebration – Thursday, May 28th

Grade 9 Students of Macdonald Drive Junior High,

The staff of MDJH would love for you to join us on Thursday, May 28, for a Google Meet Celebration!

We know it’s been a difficult end to your MDJH experience, and we are disappointed we could not go ahead with the Leaving Carnival that we were all looking forward to. That doesn’t mean we can’t show you how much we care and how much we will miss you! So we wanted to make sure we honoured the Grade 9 class of 2020 before you left to embark on your high school adventures!

Please join us in a Google Meet with your classmates and your teachers. We have a video to share with you, we have a baby photos presentation (always awesome!), and we want to have some fun and play Kahoot!

In order to accommodate the large number of Grade 9 students, we will be offering two celebration sessions, divided up by homerooms. Please note which time your homeroom is scheduled to attend!

9-1, 9-3, 9-7, 9-9: Thursday, 1:00pm

9-2, 9-4, 9-5, 9-6, 9-8: Thursday, 2:30pm

The Google Meet Link will be sent out in an email Thursday morning.

Hope to see you all there!
