MDJH at Skills Canada 2019

On Saturday, 27 students from MDJH participated in the 17th Annual Provincial Skills Canada competitions. There were approximately 500 students from across the province participating. Congratulations to all students for representing your school so well throughout the day. As well, we wish to extend a special congratulations to the students who achieved medals and awards.

  • The Core Values Inspiration Award went to MDJH Robotics Team #1
  • The Core Values 2nd Place Award went to MDJH Robotics Team #2
  • Travis Cormier received a Bronze Medal in Photography
  • Eric Butt and Finnegan Bowes received a Bronze Medal in 2-D Animation

And finally,

  • Julia Andrews and Kate Rowe received a Gold Medal in Cake Decorating… there was very stiff competition in that category.

It was an awesome day!! Next September we will be looking for students to represent MDJH in the 2020 Skills Canada competitions.

Christmas Cash! 50/50 Draw!

Dear School Community:

We are now rolling out our first fundraiser for the school year. It is a 50/50 draw for Christmas Cash! The maximum Grand Prize could be a whopping $10,000! Tickets are $2 each, and the winner will be drawn on December 12, 2019. All proceeds will be used to create a new outdoor classroom for our students.

Each student will be given a booklet of 10 tickets. If you need extras, just let us know.

We are offering a top seller’s prize – a $200.00 gift card from Best Buy! Get your tickets in early because we will be drawing weekly prizes of gift cards and students will have more chances to win. There will also be ice cream treats for the top selling class.

The ticket sale deadline is December 10, 2019, so please return any unsold tickets by then. If you would like to make a monetary donation instead of selling tickets, that would be warmly welcomed.

We want to thank you for your help with this fundraiser and, as always, for your wonderful support. All prizes were graciously donated by businesses in our local area.

Sincerely,

Macdonald Drive Junior High School Council and Administration

Soy Butter Products

In 2011, after close examination of the peanut butter replacement products that are currently on the market and in consultation with legal counsel, the former Eastern School District determined that given the similarities in appearance, texture and taste they would restrict these products in schools where a student has a peanut allergy. Please be advised that this practice will continue.

We recognize that these products present no risk of anaphylactic allergy; however, having these products in our schools does undermine our capacity to enforce our restriction of peanut butter. Teachers on duty would not be able to distinguish between the two products; therefore, both products will be restricted in a school where a student has a peanut allergy.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Newfoundland and Labrador Eastern School District.

Remembrance Day Ceremony
