MDJH 50/50 Fundraiser

Our first school fundraiser in two years has been launched! Just in time for Christmas!

Tickets are being sent home today for our 50/50 fundraiser. We are having the draw on December 10, to raise much needed funds to upgrade the technology in our school so our students can access more interesting and engaging material for their learning. Money will also be allocated for our new outdoor classrooms so our students can experience learning in alternate spaces that offer sunshine and fresh air.

We would like all students to take at least one booklet of 10 tickets. We are offering a top seller’s prize – a $200.00 gift card from Best Buy, AND if you get your tickets and money back early, there will be more chances to win during daily draws for prizes. More tickets are available at the office.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Grizzly Sports Updates

Congratulations to the Boys Grade 8 Volleyball team, who took home Gold medals and the banner from the recent Regional East voleyball tournament.

Congratulations also to the Grade 8 Girls volleyball team, who took home Silver medals at the same tournament.

Congratulations also go out to the Grade 7 Girls Volleyball Team, who won the Brother Rice invitational this past weekend!

Way to go, Grizzlies!

“Adopt A Senior” Christmas Project

For the past nine years MDJH has partnered with St. Pat’s Mercy Home to provide gifts for their seniors who may not have anyone to give them a gift. They are too often forgotten at this time of year. Ours are the only gift they may receive.

We receive a list of wish items for seniors. Some lists are bigger than others and some are quite small.

Students are asked to bring in a monetary donation toward the purchase of clothing items requested. Students are also able to bring in the following items:

  • Dry shampoo (Batiste) for our female residents
  • Unscented Hairspray
  • Shampoo
  • Unscented body lotion
  • Razors for our male residents (Gillette, Xtreme or Bic)
  • Body wash
  • Baby powder
  • Socks (thin ankle socks that can be worn inside a shoe)
  • Deodorant gel (something with low scent)
  • Treats (chewing gum, soft cheesies, chocolate bars (no nuts or chewy parts))
  • Hair brushes
  • Hair elastics
  • Wool
  • Knitting needles
  • Art supplies (residents love to paint small pictures for their rooms/family)
  • Coloring leads, markers
  • Gift Cards – Tim Hortons/Dollarama (Rec Therapy takes residents on outings and they often stop at Tims to get residents coffee, etc.)

Every homeroom will also sign a card for the seniors.

This is a very heartwarming project. Thank you for your continued support.

All donations must be handed in to Homeroom teachers by Friday, December 10th.

Report Cards / Parent-Teacher Interviews

  1. Report cards will be sent home on December 3. We will be sending home paper report cards this year.
    • Marks and teacher comments will also be available on-line through PowerSchool.
    • If you need access to PowerSchool, please contact natashawellon@nlesd.ca.
    • PowerSchool provides the most up to date marks information for students. By clicking on the overall mark you will even get a breakdown of all your child’s individual assessments.
  2. Parent-teacher conferences will be held on December 9 from 12:30 to 6:30 pm.
    • We will be using OPTIS to arrange these conferences.
    • OPTIS will give you the option to arrange a phone conference or a video conference – there will be no in-person conferences this year.
    • Here are the links to Optis and the user instructions for parents.
    • OPTIS will open on December 3, and will close on December 8.
