MDJH Update – May 31

Free Donuts on Friday!

  • In 1917, Salvation Army volunteers went to the front lines of the First World War in France, where they established social centres and canteens. Soldiers had the opportunity to secure essential items and receive some baked donuts, writing supplies, and clothes-mending services.
  • The Salvation Army’s “donut lassies” served hope and happiness to soldiers on the battlefield and boosted morale. In recent years, this special day has been picking up momentum again.
  • So, on Friday, June 3, The Salvation Army will be celebrating National Donut Day. The Emergency Services Truck will be on on the parking lot of MDJH and will be passing out free donuts to students during the lunch break.

Student Leadership Award

Are you a grade 9 student at MDJH? Are you active and involved in the school community and/or the community at large? If so, this award might be for you!

The winning students will be presented with a certificate and have their names permanently inscribed on the school Student Leadership tableau in front of the main office.

This is a great time to clear out your cupboards and donate to a wonderful cause!

Grade 9 Legacy Project

As the school year comes to a close, we are reaching out to our Grade 9 students to propose a legacy project for this year’s graduates. We are asking Grade 9 students to leave a memento of their time here by donating some pocket change, so we can purchase a picnic table to complement our outdoor classroom. It will have a plaque inscribed with “Donated by the 2022 Grade 9 Graduating Class.” Money will be collected by the homeroom teacher.

50-50 Tickets!

This morning we handed out books of 50-50 tickets to our students. This is our last fundraiser for the year, and the proceeds will aid in securing resources for both students and staff to enhance teaching and learning at MDJH. We are asking our students to sell one book of tickets each, and more books are available at the office if they would like to sell more!

There is a seller prize of a $200 Best Buy gift card, and the homeroom that sells the most tickets will win an ice cream party.

Thank you in advance for helping to make this effort a success!
