Welcome Back!

We had a great first day back at Macdonald Drive Junior High. During the grade level assemblies, we updated students on some revised policies:

  1. School doors will not be open until 7:45 am. Students are not permitted to enter the building before that time.
  2. Students are only to enter through the Bus Entrance. They will not be permitted to enter through the Main / Teacher entrance.
  3. The Bus Entrance doors will be locked at 8:05 – the start of homeroom period. Students arriving after this time are to go to the Main / Teacher entrance to sign in.

Students were also given an information sheet to take home (click here to download a copy). Please complete this sheet and return to the homeroom teachers by Friday.

Once again, welcome!

Dear Parent/Guardian:

A case of head lice has been detected at MDJH. Anyone can get head lice, mainly through direct head to head contact but also from sharing hats, combs, hair brushes, headphones, helmets, hair accessories, and other personal items.

Parents or guardians may feel frustrated or embarrassed, however the problem has nothing to do with standards of cleanliness. Please do your part to prevent the spread of head lice by checking your child daily for the next few weeks and weekly thereafter. Lice infestation is much easier to treat if caught early.

If your child has head lice, please start treatment immediately and notify your child’s school. A booklet titled, Managing Head Lice at Home, is available through your school or school nurse. This booklet can also be found electronically on the Eastern Health website: http://www.easternhealth.ca

Once a case of head lice has been found all family members should be checked as well.

If you have further questions please contact the Public Health Nurse.

Sincerely,

Shirley Powell

Re: Paul Reynolds Community Centre Engagement Sessions:

Parents & Guardians:

Did you know that construction is ongoing for a new recreation facility, the Paul Reynolds Community Centre to replace the Wedgewood Park Recreation Centre? With a planned completion date of January 2017 the City of St. John’s is interested in hearing from current and potential users on the public programs to be offered at the facility.

Drop in to our two public open houses: 1. Sunday, June 5, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm at Macdonald Drive Junior High 2. Wednesday, June 8, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm at Macdonald Drive Junior High.

We want to hear about the kinds of recreation and leisure programs you are interested in for you and your family.
