Macdonald Drive Junior High wins Provincial Environmental Award 2015

Macdonald Drive Junior High won the Provincial Government 2015 School Environmental Award. This award is won by: individuals, schools, organizations, and businesses in our province for outstanding achievements in environmental conservation. The MDJH Environmental Club, under the direction of Ms. Rose Drover, built an outdoor seating area in front of the school which included: benches, garbage and recycling cans, planters, flowers and seasonal bulbs in the front area of our school.  As well MDJH has taken care to recycle beverage containers, recycle older Christmas cards into gift tags, and make Halloween costumes from recycled products, along with many other environmentally friendly projects. Our school is very proud of their many accomplishments in changing our climate to help create a cleaner and safer place for our students to grow up. Together we can make a difference, one project at a time. We challenge other schools in our province to do the same and make a change to our climate and hopefully win the Environmental School Award 2016. MDJH Environmental Club is proud to be part of “Climate Change 2014-15” school initiative in partnership with Conservation Corps NL, Government of NL (Environment and Conservation), the Women’s Institute and MMSB. Together we can make a difference!

Permission Form to Stay Home During Exam Period2015-exam-schedule-mdjh

Dear Parent/Caregiver,

Macdonald Drive Junior High will commence exams on Wednesday, June 17th, 2015. Common practice with many students is to come into school to write one’s exam and then leave upon conclusion of writing. Students who elect to do this must have parental/caregiver permission submitted to the homeroom teacher. Please be advised that bus routes and schedules remain the same – AM pick up and PM drop off same routine. There is no lunch hour busing. Hence, should a student write in the PM or finish in the AM and have permission to go home, they will have to make alternate travel arrangements getting to or from MDJH. Students who elect to come to school when not doing an exam will be directed to study hall (cafeteria). All students are reminded that their last day is Thursday, June 25th (8:30 – 12:30). It will encompass a student breakfast, grade level assemblies, and a general student assembly. Major awards will be given out at this last assembly. Students will then receive report cards with dismissal at 12:30 PM for the summer break. Buses will be here at this time. Please detach, fill out the permission form below, and return to the office. Any questions please call the school or email the homeroom teacher.

YEARBOOKS for 2014 – 15 (need more orders)

The Annual MDJH Yearbook is a tradition that many students, teachers, and parents like to have as a memento in the years to come. To date we have only 75 orders for yearbooks. This number is insufficient and will not cover costs. The time put into this project is considerable. Yearbooks are representative of all students at MDJH. Grade 7, 8, and 9 students are represented in the yearbook. Hence, numbers must increase in the next week if we are to have a MDJH Yearbook in 2014-15. Cost is $20.00 and can be paid at the office via cash or cheque (payable to MDJH). Please support this endeavor.
